StoneCrop's last day of the Season.

The day I've been putting on the back burner forever has finally arrived. The gallery is closing for the season today. It seems like the season really flew on by, and then I remember all of the things that we've done at StoneCrop. The cell phone show was by far the best one to day. The Girls of Summer was really a beautiful show and hanging it was a blast. Those two shows made hanging the Girls Girls Girls show a breeze. 

I want to give a special thanks to everyone who made the gallery's season such a special one. This includes all of the hundreds of photographers that submitted to SHOOT & TELL, all of the artists from the Girls of Summer as well as the Girls Girls Girls. Thanks to Calluna Flowers for always making the gallery look beautiful with lovely bouquets, and everyone who stopped by the gallery. 

As I'm writing this I'm realizing that this is going to be the last blog post of the season and I'm not sure how to end it! This has been one of the greatest opportunities I've ever had. Ogunquit is a magical place and I'm pretty sad to be leaving it soon, but I can't wait to see what the next chapter will bring!

Photos of the Day - October 18th

With Halloween just around the corner, I figured I'd post StoneCrop's creepiest pictures submitted to Shoot & Tell. I would be working in the gallery while someone behind me is flipping through the hundreds of pictures in the show, when all of a sudden I'll hear a shudder... and I know exactly which picture they're passing. Amy Hildreth's puppet clown strikes a chord, and I love it. 

 

Dana's skull pictures looked great hanging on the wall together. There were three that were in the show, and would be perfect for a little halloween decor.  

Colin May nailed it with this picture. The filters and editing make it look like you'd find this thing in a mad scientist's laboratory, or in one of those SAW movies. It definitely makes me fear the dentist even more than I already do...

 

 

StoneCrop gallery will be closing for the season tomorrow, but that doesn't mean you can't browse around the website and choose your favorite images from our shows.

Photo of the Day - October 12th

Now is the time to come up to Maine and check out the changing colors of the leaves. Chris DiRubio took it a few steps further and gave the leaves every color on the rainbow. I'm not too sure what's going on in the picture, but I love it. 

 

Photo of the Day - October 11th

It's a rainy day in Ogunquit, but that doesn't stop the dedicated "leaf peepers" from putting on their rain coats and walking through Perkins Cove onto Marginal Way. Al Bauters snapped this picture of the Perkins Cove bridge and people loved it in our show.

Photo of the Day - October 10th

I really love this photo taken by Dan Esposito. This was one of the images in Shoot & Tell where I had to take a step back and remind myself that all of the images were taken with cell phones. The clarity of everything and the quality of light makes it seem like this could have been taken with a medium of high format film camera.

Photo Of the Day - October 8th

Is it just me or is October really flying by? It seems like August and September were over and done with in the blink of an eye, and October seems to be following suit.

I figure this lady would be fitting for today's photograph of the day. This picture was pretty popular in the show, and was definitely a great conversation starter. CJ Wickman has a really neat instagram with pictures similar to this one.  Check them out.

Photo of the Day - October 5th

Dorian Hill had a lot of great submissions for Shoot & Tell. This one in particular stands out today. The orange and red leaves have decorated the front lawn of StoneCrop and it couldn't be any more beautiful outside. We've only got about a week left before the gallery closes for the season, so if you're looking for something to do today, come over to Stonecrop and check out some great photography.

Friday, October 3rd - Photo of the Day

October is definitely one of my favorite months of the year. It may only be because I've lived in New England all my life and it's signified such a drastic change. Coming up to StoneCrop in the middle of the summer was a blast, but looking outside the gallery now really reminds me why I love this place so much. We've switched the air conditioner for the space heater and the gallery is nice and toasty. 

Of course, I can't think about October without being reminded that Halloween is getting closer and closer. Angela Casagrande's photograph looks like it could be the gathering place of a bunch of witches and ghosts on Halloween night. The leaves have all fallen off of these two trees, and she's edited the picture perfectly to give it a really archaic look.

If you're driving through New England today, It'll be hard to miss the beautiful colors of fall. Some of the leaves have been changing for weeks, while others are still holding on to their green. Colleen Butler captured this beautiful image showing all of the colors of Autumn.
